RAY BAUMS Act
Repack Airwaves Yielding Better Access for Users of Modern Services
Ray Baum was a prominent telecommunications lawyer who passed away in 2018. Though he wasn’t directly involved in creating the act, it was named in his honor to recognize his significant contributions to the field of telecommunications.
The RAY BAUM Act was specifically designed to tackle the challenges arising from the increasing use of cell phones, VoIP telephone systems, and the declining number of personal-use landline devices.
In 2019, the senate passed the RAY BAUM Act to address these issues and improve emergency response capabilities. As a part of this act, phones are now required to provide x, y, and z location data, enabling emergency services to determine the floor the victim is located on during an emergency.
